For my second JGP I was assigned Milan, Italy, and it was beautiful. On our second day there, my Mom and I went walking around the city. The buildings were so amazing, and the best part was seeing the Duomo, which is a massive cathedral that took 400 years to complete! That was really incredible, and the building was gigantic!
Aside from the sight-seeing, the rest of the trip wasn’t so great. First, before my short program, my Mom and I were stuck in an elevator for almost 2 hours. It was kind of funny, but nerve wrecking too (my Mom was a mess!). Then, during the long program competition, on the first jump actually, I tapped and popped the growth plate below my right knee cap and fractured the tibia below it. I had to be wheeled off of the ice on a gurney, which was actually kind of fun in a weird way, and taken to the hospital in an ambulance. When we got home from Italy, I had surgery to reattach the growth plate, and now I have two screws there to hold it down. What a trip! :)
After 8 long weeks off the ice, I am now back on. I’ve been skating for about 4 weeks now, and I can do everything like I did before the injury. The only thing is that I am not allowed to jump yet. Just a few more weeks to go before I can though! I can’t wait, but at least I can do my spins now. All I can do for now is keep skating and strengthening my leg until the doctor gives me the okay to jump again.
Thanks for all the warm wishes and encouragement during my down time. It really kept me going, and I appreciate it!
